Fair Housing Tester
We are looking for people in the community to help us obtain information about housing practices in our area.
Who can be a tester?
Testers are a diverse group of dependable, conscientious people of various racial and ethnic groups, men and women, over a broad range of ages with and without disabilities. Testers must be over age 18 and undergo a criminal backround check.
What is a tester?
A tester takes on the role of a perspective homeowner or renter for the purpose of gathering information to identify unlawful discrimination and to ensure that individuals or companies are in compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act. Testers may be more commonly known as “mystery shoppers”.
We need individuals who are interested in helping us provide quality education and outreach about Fair Housing.
Raising awareness and educating the public about their rights under the Fair Housing Act and what to do if they experience discrimination is crucial to our mission. We are a trusted source of fair housing training and information. We offer Fair Housing training, presentations, and printed educational materials. We work with housing consumers, providers, and professionals as well as local community groups and organizations. We also serve as a resource to housing providers and industry professionals in order to help them understand and meet their responsibilities under fair housing law.
What is the time commitment?
Testers are on an on-call, as-needed basis. If you accept a test assignment you must be able to commit 3-4 hours to complete the test from start to finish.
Will I get paid for testing?
Testers receive a stipend for completed tests along with travel reimbursement. The stipend amount depends upon the type of test conducted.
How do I get started?
