Fair Housing Tester
We are looking for people in the community to help us obtain information about housing practices in our area.
Who can be a tester?
Testers are a diverse group of dependable, conscientious people of various racial and ethnic groups, men and women, over a broad range of ages with and without disabilities. Testers must be over age 18 and undergo a criminal backround check.
What is a tester?
A tester takes on the role of a perspective homeowner or renter for the purpose of gathering information to identify unlawful discrimination and to ensure that individuals or companies are in compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act. Testers may be more commonly known as “mystery shoppers”.
What is the time commitment?
Testers are on an on-call, as-needed basis. If you accept a test assignment you must be able to commit 3-4 hours to complete the test from start to finish.
Will I get paid for testing?
Testers receive a stipend for completed tests along with travel reimbursement. The stipend amount depends upon the type of test conducted.
How do I get started?
To become a tester, you will need to complete a Tester Application, consent to a background check, attend a required training session, and perform a practice test.
For an application or for additional information, please contact the Testing Coordinator, at 713-641-3247 or send us an email.
